Our Story:
Welcome to Emmalani Quilts where you can be assured that you are
purchasing the best quality quilt not advertised for large commercial
release, but for the interest of those who care and wish to share and
contribute to the welfare of those trying to survive. This rare
opportunity extends itself from the villages in the province of
Pampanga in the Philippines, a third world country ravaged by poverty
and misplaced victims of calamities, namely the eruption of Mount
Pinatubo in 1991. The product of these “master quilters”,
is a hand made quality quilt sought after by many as a
collectors’ item for display or for regular domestic use. These
quilts are now being made available to you by Mrs. Emma Ceberano, the
spouse of a former Hawaiian, who resides in Antipolo, Rizal,
Philippines.
Mrs. Ceberano, having been influenced by her husband, a project
consultant, has always been interested in projects that assist those in
need particularly in the regions as describe above. The women
cooperatives from the area of Pampanga and the hills surrounding this
once devastated area, have organized themselves, coordinating schedules
in order to complete the arduous task of making Hawaiian quilts in the
style developed in Hawaii after the Hawaiian Islands were discovered in
the 1700’s.
Although the Hawaiians were introduced to patchwork quilts by the
missionaries, they chose to design their own unique style by using the
appliqué method and echo quilting. The “master
quilters” in Pampanga have learned this craft from their Hawaiian
teachers and are continuing to produce the finest of quilts just like
the Hawaiians did and are still doing today. Therefore, your purchase
from Emmalani Quilts is directly providing an income for families in
the area whose existence and livelihood is dependent on this product.
An average quilt takes 45-60 days to complete by a team of four women.
It is hand produced using thousands of tiny stitches and meticulously
checked for flaws. Also, a two inch fiber fill is used between the top
and bottom layer of the quilt. The result is a quality-approved product
of prestige and value made with a lot of Aloha.
Emma was introduced to the world of Hawaiian Quilt making by her
Hawaiian friend who made a couple trips to the Philippines to discover
where the “master quilters” did their fine quilt work. Her
trips took her to the factories located around the province of
Pampanga. Since then, Emma has established relationships with a couple
of the best-known cooperatives in the area.
